INTRODUCTIONDawn of nineteenth century brought a lot of technological & industrial changes in every aspect of life along with changes in nature of crime & modus operandi. Forensic science labs were established to counter these changes and to incorporate science & technology in investigation in changing scenario of crime to help investigation agencies in solving crime and increasing conviction rate. In the wake of same purpose Forensic Science Laboratory Rajasthan had been started in the police headquarter with Document and Photo Division in the 1959. First Technical Director had been appointed in 1970.
Directorate of Forensic Sciences comprises State-wide network of seven forensic labs - one each at each divisional headquarter and 34 Mobile Forensic Units - one each at each Police District to deliver scientific services for establishing elements of crime at crime scenes and identifying criminals.
The State Forensic Science Laboratory, Rajasthan has multi-disciplinary State of Art Laboratory to provide scientific support and services to the investigation of crime. The examination of material objects forwarded by Police, Courts and other Investigating agencies are carried out in the Laboratory and examination reports are prepared by applying advanced scientific technology and scientific Instruments, which is further submitted as main scientific evidence in the court of Law.
The State FSL Jaipur has examination facilities in the field of Physics, Cyber Forensics, Ballistics, Biology, Serology, DNA, Chemistry, Narcotics, Arson & Explosive, Documents, Toxicology and Photo Divisions with state of art laboratory. Forensic Training Research Institute is also established in the premises of the SFSL Jaipur, in which training facilities would be developed for Forensic Scientists, Judicial Officers, and Law Enforcement Officers.
The State Forensic Science Laboratory Rajasthan has its Regional Laboratories located at Jodhpur, Udaipur, Kota, Bikaner, Ajmer and Bharatpur with examination facilities in 5, 5, 4, 5, 3 and 4 forensic fields respectively.
In order to ensure speedy and effective Crime Scene Examination and to ensure proper and correct evaluation of clue materials from the scene of crime, there are 34 District Mobile Forensic Units (DMFU), in which two DMFU at Jaipur district and one DMFU at each district. |
