In Rajasthan there are four battalions of Border Home Guards located at the Border districts of Barmer, Jaisalmer, Bikaner and Sriganganagar. The primary role of the B.H.G. is to work in conjunction with the army in guarding the vital Installations, the vital points and the vulnerable areas during break out of hostilities on the International Border.The Border Home guard Volunteers presently are also deployed in the security duties with the Jail Department, the Mine Department, the Rajasthan High Court, Thermal Power Station Chabbara and the Cairn's Energy, Barmer. They are also deployed as auxillary force in maintaining Law and Order with Police. They are used as CPMF during elections.In view of their increasing demand, a proposal for raising two more Border Home Guards Battallion at Suratgarh and Pokaran has been forwarded to MHA, New Delhi by the State Government and is under consideration with Government of India.
